The 4-Hour Fishing Trip: Sample Timing
Fish feed best early and the sea is calmest before noon, so we recommend a morning departure. A typical 4-hour trip out of Serangan:
- 05:30 Optional hotel pick-up (private transfer add-on from $50; earlier from Canggu or Ubud).
- 06:30 Board at Serangan. The fishing guide rigs the lines and the crew gives a short safety briefing.
- 06:45 Run out past the reef and start trolling along the drop-off.
- 07:30 Trolling for tuna and mahi-mahi; if the surface goes quiet, switch to jigging.
- 09:00 Bottom fishing over reef for snapper and grouper — the easiest fishing for kids.
- 10:30 Back at the dock — or ashore for the island fish grill if you added it.
8-hour day ($1,550): same early start, but the boat runs further offshore to deeper grounds where pelagic fish hunt, and comes back mid-afternoon. Choose it if you want a real shot at tuna or wahoo. The 10-hour Gili run ($3,600) adds turtle reefs and a long troll east.
How We Fish: Trolling, Jigging and Bottom Fishing
Trolling
Lures or bait pulled behind the moving boat for tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo and Spanish mackerel. The classic deep-sea method — the reel screams, you take the rod.
Jigging
Metal jigs dropped and worked over deep structure. Hard work for tuna, amberjack and giant trevally (GT); best for anglers who want a fight.
Bottom fishing
Baited lines over reef and rubble for snapper, grouper and trevally. Steady bites and easy for beginners and children.
Island fish grill
Keep a tuna or snapper for lunch: the optional island fish grill after the catch is part of the $100 Fishing Experience — the crew grills it ashore.
Deep-Sea Fishing in Bali: Seasons and Species
Bali sits next to deep water, so offshore grounds are close to the harbour. This is the usual pattern — a guide, not a promise:

The dry season (roughly April to October) usually gives the calmest sea for the run offshore. In the wet season (November to March) many mornings are still flat, but afternoon squalls are more common, so we fish early and keep an eye on the forecast.
