Best Time for a Sunset Cruise in Bali
Season. The dry season, roughly April to October, gives the most reliable sunsets: clear evenings, steady south-east trade winds and calm water along the south coast. July and August are the busiest months, so message a few days ahead. From November to March (wet season) afternoons can bring heavy showers, but when the cloud breaks the colours are often the strongest of the year — keep a back-up evening free.
The minute of sunset. Bali is close to the equator, so sunset moves by only about 40 minutes across the year: around 6:05–6:20 pm from May to November and 6:40–6:50 pm in January and February (Bali time, WITA). The cruise is four hours, so we time the slot — approximately 14:30 to 18:30 — to put the anchor down just as the light peaks, and we confirm the exact boarding time for your date.

The Sunset Route from Serangan
Every charter leaves from Serangan harbour (Dermaga apung, Serangan, Denpasar) on the east side of the Bukit peninsula. The skipper shapes the four hours around the conditions on the day — calm water first, the best light last.
Serangan and the sheltered channel
The first stretch runs through the calm water around Serangan island — the gentlest part of the route and a good swim or snorkel stop while the afternoon is still warm, with the Kuta skyline and the Jimbaran hills ahead of the bow.
The Nusa Dua coastline
South along the reef past the Nusa Dua resorts — fairly calm for most of the year, with Mount Agung behind you on a clear evening. From Nusa Dua hotels the drive to Serangan is approx. 25–35 minutes, traffic dependent.
Golden hour at anchor
For the last hour the skipper anchors the boat facing west, so the deck — not a crowded beach — is your front row as the sun drops behind the island. When the swell allows (mostly dry season), the route can push further south for open-ocean views toward the Uluwatu side. From Jimbaran the drive to Serangan is approx. 20–30 min.
